If you are not a techie parent, let us have a few words on what this device can do. GPS stands for global positioning system which is the technology utilized by a portable GPS tracking device to give the precise location of a person, animal, car, or other asset to which it is appended. The GPS records the data relative to the position of, let us say, your daughter then either stores them in the tracking unit itself or transmits them to a remote computer using a component of the tracking services. The choice of the time you want information on your child’s whereabouts may be in real time or afterwards.
Types Of GPS Tracking Devices
A GPS tracking device can be a data logger, a data pusher, or a data puller.
Data Logging
A data logger, as the name implies, logs the location of the device at designated periods. The logged data is saved in either the memory card slot or internal flash memory of the unit. A data logger can sometimes function as a USB flash drive. The data saved can then be downloaded to a computer for analysis.
Data Pushing
A data pusher pushes or sends the position of the device constantly to a server which then immediately analyzes the data. The trigger to activate the push technology might be through the ignition key or the opening of the vehicle door. The data pusher deactivates once the engine is turned off.
Data Pulling
The last but not the least is the data puller which is the opposite of the data pusher. A GPS tracking device that uses the pull technology is always on and responds only with the location of the device whenever asked to. It is not as popular as data pushers. It is normally used when the location of the asset to which the device is attached need only to be known sporadically like, for example, a valuable statue displayed in a mansion.
